I moved from Michigan to WA in 2010 with a single suitcase, $1500, and no job experience. I knew exactly one person, who I hadn’t seen since high school, but at the time I had an overwhelming feeling that if I didn’t try, I would regret it forever. I met my future husband the first evening – he was a friend of the people I was staying with. I’ve learned that if you listen to your inner self, it has ways of getting you where you need to be, even if the road there isn’t always clear.
In high school I was very involved in choir, which taught me the importance and joy of working in harmony with others to create a far greater whole than the sum of its parts. I attended college at a small art school and have always had an eye for the ways that colors, words, images, and things can be arranged to encapsulate or inspire feelings.
I enjoy cooking, and my favorite times of the year are get-togethers and holidays where I can make a delicious meal for the people I love. I’ve hosted many Friendsgivings!
I have been an avid reader since the age of 2.5 and am fascinated with the art of storytelling in any media. Stories are even better when they are shared, and one of my husband’s and my favorite things to do is get together with friends for tabletop gaming adventures in other worlds.
I love video games, especially RPGs. Right now I’m into Final Fantasy XIV because you can both save the world AND design a house for your character – the best of both worlds. I also love going to see live music, from tiny bar shows to big arena spectacles, and will happily wait outside for eight hours to be at the barrier.
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at 17 and am very involved in support groups revolving around living both with IBD and with chronic disease in general. Living with an invisible disability can be a real struggle and I want to support others in the way I wish I’d gotten support at diagnosis.
I have performed at Carnegie Hall. When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be Sailor Moon. Much to my surprise, I am pretty good at axe throwing. I have seen every season of Survivor. I have two cats: Bellamy, a doofy tuxedo rescued as a kitten from a hoarding situation, and Orianna, a flame-point Siamese floofball princess.
