My mother is my inspiration and role model. Her upbringing wasn’t easy and she had to drop out of college. When I was three, my parents divorced and she took on a second job to pay the bills and give me the life she never had. Starting as a file clerk at an insurance office, she built up an entire commercial insurance department, receiving many accolades and awards.

In high school, I was active in leadership and academics came easy to me. At the University of Washington, I was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and held positions such as Rush and Social Chairman. When I got accepted into the Foster School of Business, I narrowed my major down to Finance, and for the first time, I truly enjoyed school. I realized I wanted to help bring education to an industry focused on selling rather than educating.

Today I help individuals within 10 years of retirement to build a strategy that can help them to retire when they want and not when the market allows. I like to say: “Let’s create a strategy so it doesn’t matter if the Dow is 40k or 10k – we’ll have a strategy in place for a variety of market conditions.” I also help individuals with complex company stock benefits (mainly in the tech industry in the greater Seattle area), looking at it from a diversification perspective and educating them about how to diversify their tax liability.

For pre-retirees it’s about giving them the confidence they can retire with income derived in a variety of market conditions.  For younger clients, it’s more about diversifying outside of company stock: how much to allocate toward their 401k, ESPP, diversifying tax liability, and saving for things like their children’s education and purchasing real estate.

I offer custom solutions and an educational approach to planning. I help create a roadmap and strategy for whatever life throws at them, allowing them to enjoy their journey without having to worry. I’ve modelled my practice on my mother’s many teachings, but what sticks out most is this: “If you do right by the client, success will come.”

I’m extremely passionate in what I do and take a genuine interest in their life and values. After discussing their goals, we go through a variety of options to reduce risk and make the transition to retirement as easy as possible. I attribute my success to the fact that I’m a trustworthy educator, combining my knowledge and passion to help my clients pursue their vision.

I met my wife, Laura in my senior year of college and she has changed my life and  broadened my outlook on it  Family is my number one priority. I am excited for the challenge of parenthood and have faith it will be the most rewarding journey of my life.

I enjoy sports such as golf, (basketball, baseball, football in my younger days) and in the winter I enjoy snowboarding. But what really brings me joy in life is who I’m with more than what I’m doing. Laura jokes that my laugh can be heard from Mars. I love breakfast food. It’s honestly the only kind of food I can cook. I am a closet nerd. I love SciFi, Star Wars, video games and anything pertaining to Space/the Universe. I love math too (someday I’d like to be my kids’ Mathletes coach).

A diversified portfolio does not assure a profit or protect against loss in a declining market. Distributions from traditional IRAs and employer sponsored retirement plans are taxed as ordinary income and, if taken prior to reaching age 59½, may be subject to an additional 10% IRS tax penalty.
